With evidence of Neanderthal presence as far back as 230,000 years ago, Homo sapiens arrived about 31,000 BC.

To this day, Wales regards itself as a small nation that comprises six distinctive regions.

It was a distinct Celtic center, that is different from its English neighbor.

With the change from the Saxons to the Normans, unfortunately Wales was formally joined to the Kingdom of England the Act of Union in 1536.  However, Wales retained its Welsh Language, which is still spoken today.

Rhodri Mawr the king of Gwynedd provided resistance to the Vikings before his death in 878.

Even though battles and skirmishes occurred throughout Wales and England during the Middle Ages, King Henry VIII enacted changes for Wales, in that all Welshmen would enjoy the same political status as Englishmen.

In 1642 there was a Civil War in Wales over politics and religion, between the Puritans and the Roman Catholics.  This caused many to flee to America.

During 500-542 CE, the legend of King Artur, who was of Welsh parentage emerged.

Tintern Abbey, the first Cistercian monastery in Wales, was founded in May 1131.
